She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and John, and brothers Arthur, Harvey and Leonard Kramer and sisters Edna Heis, Elizabeth Mohr, Josephine Kramer, and Stella Kimmich. <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://stithfuneralhome.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/68_114735.jpg" alt="DANIEL J. REED, Ph.D." />Daniel J. Reed, Ph.D., age 89, passed away peacefully at Madonna Manor, Villa
Hills, KY, on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from Alzheimer’s. He is preceded in death by his father, John, his mother, Laurine, his first wife, Helen, his second wife, Margaret, his eldest daughter, Kathleen, and his youngest daughter, Colleen. 
He is survived by his son, Michael, his daughter, Maureen (Leon), his son,
Christopher (Wasima), his son, Daniel, (Susan) his grandchildren, Tony (Stephanie), Andrew (Melody), Kathryn (Patrick), Jackie, Danielle, and his great-grandchildren, Grace, Laine, Eve, Phillip, Sean, Reed, and Luke.
Daniel was born in Springfield, Illinois on July 19, 1922. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War Il. He received his B.S. in 1947 from St. Louis University, his M.A. in 1948 also from St. Louis University, and his Ph.D. in 1958 from the University of Chicago. He taught History at both St. Louis University and the University of Detroit. In 1959 he moved his family to Washington, DC to accept a position as Assistant Chief, Manuscript Division at the Library of Congress. In 1965 he became Chief Historian in the 
Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery. In 1968 he became the Assistant Archivist of the United States for the Presidential Libraries in the National Archives. In 1980, after retiring from the Federal Government, he moved to St. Mary’s City, Maryland to be near the water and became Director of Historic St. Mary’s City.
He retired in 1985 and, being an avid sailor, spent his time sailing his boat up and down the East Coast. He also enjoyed gardening, reading, and classical music, having played the clarinet. In 2007 he moved to the Northern Kentucky area to be near family.
