Obituary for BRUCE STUART FERGUSON

Bruce Stuart Ferguson, 86, passed away on Sunday, May 3rd at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Shirley Ferguson; and his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Reynolds Ferguson. He is survived by his brother Walter (Shelly) Ferguson of Lexington, Kentucky. He is also survived by his five children, Carol Ray (Paul Medin), Patty Hayden (Rick), Stuart (Sara), Miriam Pacheco, and Philip (Martha). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of Holmes High School and Villa Madonna College. He was a retired farmer, avid historian, dedicated conservationist, UK basketball fan, and longtime public servant. He served four years on the Boone County Board of Education, 24 years as Boone County Judge Executive and four years as Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Local Government. He also served in leadership positions in the Boone County Jaycees, Soil & Conservation Board, OKI Regional Council of Governments, Boone County Board of Elections, Boone County Businessman's Association, Rotary Club, and National Association of Counties. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Union. In place of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dinsmore Homestead, Boone County Arboretum, or Friends of Big Bone. At Bruce's request, in lieu of services there will be a celebration of life on Sunday, June 14th from 2:00 to 4:00 at Farm Haven on Tadpole Lane in Union.
