Obituary for Betty Jean Bailey
Betty Jean (Elizabeth Hampton) Trawick Bailey, 96, passed away on December 3, 2020 due to Covid-19. She was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Roger Swint and Eudelle Evans Trawick on July 20, 1924.
Her childhood was spent in Sparta, Georgia and she was a graduate of Duke University. Upon graduation in 1944, she practiced nursing in St. Louis, Missouri and Atlanta, Georgia. She met her future husband, William Francis Bailey, while both were students at Duke.
She married the late William (Bill) Francis Bailey on December 18, 1948 in Walterboro, South Carolina. She moved to Knoxville, Tennessee as a bride and continued her career in nursing. She happily remained there until 2016 when she relocated to Independent Living in Florence, Kentucky.
She was a loving and devoted mother to Deborah Bailey Tallent (Bill) and Roger (Rusty) Bailey (Kathy). She never failed to give unconditional love and support to her family. She was adored as a delightful grandmother by Margaret Tallent, Bailey Tallent Duncan (Curtis) and Martha Brooks Tallent and as a great grandmother by Kyleigh Alderman, Ellie and Swint Duncan. Always there cheering and encouraging us along the way, her excitement and enthusiasm were cherished by all. She never missed a ballgame, golf tournament, dance recital or school activity. Furthermore, throughout her life she was an accomplished baker and shared her treats with many friends and family members. Her baking included the ingredients of love and thoughtfulness. Countless people had their spirits lifted by a surprise delivery of one of her delicious baked goods.
In keeping with her selfless generosity, she donated her body to the University of Cincinnati Medical School. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her remarkable life at a safer time.
