Obituary for Darlene Kay Young
Darlene Kay Young June 3, 1944 to August 11, 2021 The world lost a great woman on August 11, 2021 as Darlene Kay Young passed and put aside her on-going physical pain and suffering through the years after a recent stroke. She was born in Detroit, MI, married at 21 years old, had Frederick Ward Young and Eric William Young in the ‘60’s, moved to Destin, FL in early ‘70’s, then moved to AZ and CA in late ‘70’s and returned to FL about 1985. In FL, she became a very successful Realtor in the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s with her picture on billboards, selling property in the millions and the envy of other Realtors. She was a feisty woman in her day with a great sense of humor and devoted companion to people she loved. This was the personality that attracted a soon-to-be partner of twenty years after her children’s father’s unfortunate early death. That partner was Chess Cornett, a life long resident of Northern KY (and a decent bridge player). So, how did they meet from No. KY to FL? Playing in on-line bridge sites at nights and eventually playing on a regular basis from long distance. However, the first time they played together, Chess said, “You are a lousy bridge player Darlene”. That was a challenge Darlene took to heart with her driving personality and soon became a “good” bridge player like she took to Real Estate challenges. She moved to No. KY in late 2001 and the partnership began. Through the years they discussed possible “marriage” but became a joke when one would say to the other, “Hey, want to get married tomorrow?”…. and the other would say “Hell no, why screw up a great relationship!” What a fun woman and relationship they had. She was a true friend and great companion to say the least. God Speed Darlene. Final arrangements will be family and closed.
