John Hayes Pierce, was born on February 3, 1924 in Covington, KY, a longtime resident of Florence, KY, passed away October 14, 2012 in Lexington, KY at the VA Hospital Hospice. Beloved husband and father, John is preceded in death by his first wife Betty Yelton Pierce. He leaves behind his current wife Peggy Lacy Pierce and three children: Sheila Powers of Hamilton , OH, John L. Pierce of Florence, KY and Lisa (John) Stolz of Orlando, FL and four step children. He also leaves a heritage of 17 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. A veteran of WW II he was a Sergeant in the Army stationed in Burma, India. After serving his country he returned to the USA and worked in the insurance industry for more than 50 years. John was active in his community with local politics. Also served as judge in Hopeful Heights, KY and was campaign manager for Edward T. Breathitt in the early 1960’s. John was a Kentucky Colonel and president of the Florence Chapter of the Kiwanis Club. As a serious student of God’s word, John loved to read and study the Bible. He passionately and boldly taught many Bible studies through the years. At the time of his death, he was a member of Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lexington, KY. John loved God, his family and his country. He sang in the male chorus Cincinnatians. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
