Obituary for Janet Smith McKibben
Jan McKibben left her earthly body on Saturday, July 3rd, and is now present with her Lord and Savior, fully healed and at peace. She was welcomed into her Heavenly home by her mother, Georgia Smith, and her brother, Bill Smith, both preceding her in death. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bill McKibben, daughter, Amy (Pete) Coleman, beloved grandsons, Tanner (Savanna) Coleman and Tate Coleman, precious great grand-daughter, Blake Elizabeth and her dear niece, Marlene (Robert) Porter.
Jan was a Christian who devoted her life to growing in her faith, serving at the Florence Baptist Church, and sharing the love and hope of Jesus through her volunteer work at New Hope Pregnancy Care Center and by faithfully teaching in the single adult ministry at FBC for a number of years. She and Bill opened their hearts and home to the singles in the church and created a warm, homey environment in which singles could develop and grow in their relationship with Jesus and with one another.
Jan began her career as a paralegal by working for Florence Attorney, Bill Funk, and worked with him for many years. Mr. Funk was not only Jan’s boss but became one of her dearest friends. Over the next 30 years, Jan continued her work within the court system in Boone County, working with a number of county judges and then spent her final working years in the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office. She loved her work and developed many lasting friendships over the years until she retired in 2012.
Jan’s most treasured role was that of “Nana” to Tanner and Tate. She was extremely proud of them and loved each and every moment she spent with them. She was very present and active in their lives and could not have loved them more. Her favorite times were times spent with her family, with vacationing at the beach topping the list. She absolutely loved sitting on the beach from sun up until sundown, having Pete as her personal beach attendant setting up her umbrella and chair time and time again, and riding the tandem bike with Bill – with Bill doing all of the pedaling, of course. She loved her family dearly and was most definitely loved in return. She will be greatly missed until we meet again.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 10 am until the time of Service at 12 pm at Florence Baptist Church at Mt. Zion, 642 Mt. Zion Rd, Florence, KY 41042. Burial will immediately follow the service at Hopeful Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at: www.stithfuneralhomes.com
