Obituary for LAWRENCE P. GODERWIS, SR.

Lawrence P Goderwis Sr. was born December 12, 1936 in the front room of #6 Sanders Dr. Florence, Kentucky to Lawrence A. and Marie (Gilham) Goderwis. The oldest of three brothers, he has been son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his devoted family. He has lead us through many joyous occasions and more sorrowful ones than we prefer. He has always been our guiding light and we have always felt sure and confident in the wisdom of his way. We have been profoundly influenced by his love and guidance and are proud to follow in his footsteps.
Larry started his young career driving a milk truck, then learned welding from his Uncle Bob, eventually taking over his business, Bob’s Welding, and running it until his ‘retirement’ after 57 years of quality work and reliable service. He continued to go to work every day helping the sons who took it over, changed the name (Elsmere Ironworks) and expanded.
He loved a good beer, a good joke, bluegrass music, western movies and as many friends and companions as he could fit in his life, which is a lot! He had a big heart, a strong conscience and a good and true soul. His devotion to God and family was exemplary and unwavering, and he shared his self with all who needed him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 52 years, Ruby Renaker Goderwis, and a son-in-law, Edward A Salyers. He leaves behind his children: Julie D Rice (Joe), Susan E Alig (Eddie), Larry P Goderwis Jr. (Joan), John M Goderwis (Janette), Rodney G Goderwis (Carmen) and Danny J Goderwis (Sharon); his grandchildren, Kelly (Craig), Dakota and Harper Lonkard, Joseph (Wendy) Rice; Tony (Anne), Behr and Crew Salyers, Jessica Alig; Drew, Rob, Ryan, Michelle and Michael Goderwis; Maddie and Michaela Goderwis; Lindsey, Allie and Haleigh Goderwis; Catherine and Daniel Goderwis; Kyle Rountree and Kelsey Becker; brothers Carl (Pat) and Don Goderwis.
