Obituary for RAMON L. WILSON

Ramon L. Wilson, “Ray”, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 15, 2014. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alma, whom he was devoted to for 53 years. He is survived by his daughters, Ramona Lee, Rene’ Lynn, (Larry) , and Robin Lisa (Eric) and would often refer to them simply as “My Girls.” Also surviving are his two grandchildren, Kevin Robinson and Amanda Russell.

Ray was a Boone County Policeman and retired as Major of the department in 1993. He also attended the Southern Police Institute where he was voted class “Historian” before graduating in 1989 as part of the 82nd AOC. He was also a veteran, having served in the United States Army for 6 years.

Ray loved life but, more importantly, he loved life with his family. He was charming, funny and had a winning smile that would light up a room. His devotion to his wife was unwavering as she spent 3 + years in a nursing home prior to her death. His presence was a fixture at Woodcrest Nursing Home as he visited his bed-ridden wife twice a day in the time she spent there. You could hear the staff “buzzing” about him at times as they would comment on his tenacity and strength.

Ray was a Christian and was a member of Florence Baptist Mount Zion. He daily walked the Christian walk and there was never a doubt from anyone that he loved the Lord. He was an avid Kentucky Wildcats Fan and would stop and or “rearrange” things to make sure he was in front of the TV set rooting for his team. He would get so involved, it would scare any and all pets for days. He doted on his daughters – wanting them to have everything he didn’t have growing up. But, the most important thing he gave them was his love and talent for music – he loved to sing and instilled this into them as well. They would sing together as a family with him always coming thru with a booming bass voice.

Anyone who ever met him never forgot him. His gentle demeanor and quiet spirit drew people to him. He had an enigmatic personality and was the life of the party----in a good way. Not only will his family mourn this huge loss, but countless friends and acquaintances who were fortunate enough to cross his path. He is now in the presence of our Lord and reunited with his best friend forever and ever.
