Obituary for RAY ANDERSON

Ray Anderson, 93, of Florence passed away April 4 after a brief illness at St. Elizabeth Hospital Edgewood, surrounded by his beloved family. He leaves his wife of 67 years, Evelyn and daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Ed Kroll of New York City.
Ray was born December 17, 1922 in Cynthiana, Ky. and grew up in Covington. He served honorably in WWII with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre of Operations in England, Belgium, Germany and France – including the D-day landings in 1944. He rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant. Ray participated in the October 2015 Tri-State Honor Flight to Washington D.C. and described the day as “one of the best of his life”. His companion on the trip was his friend and physician, Dr. Jerry Tolbert.
After 44 years, he retired in 1982 as a conductor and brakeman from the Louisville and Nashville and Seaboard System Railroad, which is now CSX Railroad. Some of his happiest days were spent riding on the rails.
His long and relaxing retirement enabled him to spend time with his family, gardening, training his golden retrievers, traveling around America and Europe and enjoying life to the fullest.
