Obituary for ROBERT CARL ROBINSON

Robert Carl, age 78, of Richwood, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the beautiful Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Bob was born to Gaines and Opal Robinson on June 18, 1933 and lived in Richwood for over 78 years before moving to Toledo to be closer to his family as his health declined. Growing up, he worked on the family farm and at the family’s general store. He also drove trucks for the family’s trucking business. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. After his military service, he graduated from the University of Kentucky. He was a math teacher for several years before starting a career as a truck driver for Roadway Express. He retired from Roadway in 1984 and spent his time managing his real estate properties. Bob enjoyed many things and displayed numerous talents over his lifetime. He was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan and enjoyed watching NBA basketball and John Wayne and Clint Eastwood westerns. He was mechanically inclined and helped build several large barns on the family farm and through the years repaired countless rental homes, tractors, cars and mowers. He participated in many tractor and car shows and won numerous trophies with his restored tractors and 1948 Dodge farm truck. He loved to fish, boat on the Ohio River, and spend time with extended family at regular family and holiday gatherings. One of his proudest achievements was moving back to the family farm in the 1990s after renovating the farmhouse for his wife Sue and spending countless hours improving other areas of the farm. Trucking never left his blood and he enjoyed driving all over the country for vacations, including once driving from Kentucky to Alaska. He also enjoyed his winter trips to Florida. State fairs were a family tradition, with annual trips to the Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana fairs. For many years, he was a voracious reader of newspapers and business magazines and had the amazing knack of being able to decipher complex business problems with no-nonsense country wisdom. During his final months in Toledo, dozens of people who never knew him previously were immediately drawn to him because of his warm smile and witty one liners. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gaines Levi, and his wife Mary Sue (Reeves). He is survived by his sister Bonnie Shields, brother Sam (Pam) Robinson, brother-in-law Raymond Reeves, sons Neil (Michelle) of St. Petersburg, FL and Mark (Kiersten) of Toledo, OH, and six grandchildren Garrett, Nathan, Gabriel, Caleb, Chloe and Phoebe.
