Obituary for Robert L. Maze

Walton – Robert Leslie Maze passed away at his home on September 7, 2021 at the age of 75 following a long illness. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on May 17, 1946 to his late parents Russell Leroy Maze and Thelma “Joann” (Hoffman) Maze. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Karen (Tyrrell) Maze. They were married on February 24, 1968 in Youngstown, OH. Bob is lovingly remembered by his son David Maze (Laura) and daughter, Lori Maze, his grandchildren, Melissa Allen (Jeremy), Brian Maze, Justin Maze, Jennifer Averbeck and Brittany Averbeck and great granddaughter Layla Shae Davis. He also leaves his brother, William Harry Maze, Sr. (Frances) and nephews William Harry Maze Jr. and Sean Maze.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1985 at Tinker AFB, OK. Bob and family then moved to California where he started a second career in the aerospace industry at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing Corp. as an engineer where he worked on various programs including the C-17 military aircraft Flight Test Program, the International Space Station and the Missile Defense Program.
Bob was always willing to lend a helping hand to any veteran in need of assistance. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Chapter 19 where he served in various positions. He was also a member of VFW Post 7099, Covington, KY and served as a Veterans Service Officer for the Cincinnati VA Hospital. Bob was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Housing Opportunities of Northern Kentucky (HONK) at St. Timothy Church.
Bob will always be remembered first and foremost for his love of his family. He and Karen began many traditions that their family has grown to love, especially their love of decorating for and celebrating Christmas. Bob also enjoyed taking family photographs, camping trips, fishing, Disney and other travel adventures with his children and grandchildren. Visitation will take place at Stith Funeral Home, 7500 U.S. Hwy 42, Florence, KY 41042 on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 1-3 p.m. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Union Presbyterian 10259 US 42 Union, Kentucky 41091. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Union, KY, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North, Williamstown, KY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob’s name are suggested to Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation or Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
