Obituary for Ronnie G. Collier

Ronnie G. Collier, 68, of Petersburg, KY passed away on July 13, 2022. Raised in Petersburg, KY, Ron was an original, free spirit and rebel to the core. He was a social network before social media existed. Ron never met a stranger. He had a wild and fearless passion for life. His experiences created many stories, and Ron was quite the storyteller, most of which were true. His story is certainly too grand and wild for one page, so this is a glimpse. To hear more, grab a glass of Crown and visit awhile with one of his many loved ones.

As a boy, he knew hard work on farms, but he played just as hard. He had a natural athleticism, which he brought to the basketball court in school. Later he began working for Delta Airlines and moved to Jacksonville, FL, where he met Kathryn, the love of his life. Together, they had many adventures, from planned ski trips with close friends to random flights around the country. After nine years in Florida, they moved back to Kentucky with their first, young son. A couple years later, they welcomed their second son. Ron bought land in Petersburg and began building his dream home, a log cabin, with his bare hands and the help of loved ones. He added a “field of dreams” behind his house for horseshoe parties, bonfires, and good times. Once “settled” in his Petersburg roots, he continued to work for Delta until 2006. He filled retired life with his passions, which mainly included riding his Harley across the country and as often as possible, weekly golf outings, hunting during bow and gun seasons, and just hanging out jamming loud and proud to some classic rock. His greatest passion was spending time with his wife, sons, and grandsons. Ron held a unique presence everywhere he went, and one that most certainly will be missed. He always knew how to make people feel special in his greetings and conversations. His family is proud and blessed from the outpouring of love from all those people whose lives he touched.

In classic Ron fashion, his physical presence left this world but his spirit rose with the full, orange “buck moon” in the night sky. It is also referred to as the “thunder moon”; thunder like the sound of a Harley firing up to ride with the angels. Peace be his journey.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Virginia Collier and his older brother: Albert Collier. He is survived by his loving wife: Kathryn Collier, his sisters: Darlene (Gary) Collier and Tina (Bill) Fordyce, his sons: Ronnie “RC” Collier and Ryan (Teresa) Collier, and his grandsons: Christian, Logan, and Everett.

The visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Stith Funeral Home, 7500 U.S. Hwy 42, Florence, KY 41042. The service will be held at the same Florence location Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM with the burial immediately following at Petersburg Cemetery. In honor of Ron’s free spirit, these events are non-formal wherein jeans are welcome and motorcycles are encouraged. In lieu of flowers, the "Memorial Fund of Ronnie G. Collier" has been established for the education of his grandsons; donations can be made at any Fifth Third Bank location.
