Obituary for Tommy Harmon Owens

Thomas Harmon Owens, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, September 20th, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born on February 24, 1941 in Lynch, Kentucky. He was retired from the Cincinnati Enquirer, where he worked for 46 years.

Tom was given the nickname “Grinch,” when his oldest grandchild tried to say Gramps and it stuck. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. The highlights of his life were his grandchildren and great grandson. He never missed a sporting event or school activity. Football was his favorite sport and he played at Lynch High School and East Tennessee State University. One of his greatest joys was being able to watch his grandson play football at WKU.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Owens (Galloway), his two daughters, Kimberly Owens Plummer (Michael) and Kelly Owens (Syd Pohl), his grandchildren Sam Halpin (Elizabeth), Max Halpin, Madeleine Plummer, Gus Halpin, Meredith Plummer, and his great-grandson, Thomas Halpin, who is his namesake. Tom is also survived by his brother James Owens (Carol) and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of his life for the family at a future time. Memorials are requested to the charity of your choice or St. Jude Hospital in Memphis TN. Memories and condolences for the family can shared at www.stithfuneralhomes.com
